Sound is a kind of energy that you can hear. Sound is made when something vibrates. Vibrate means to move back and forth quickly.

When you talk or sing, place your hand on the side of your neck. Then you will feel your neck vibrating. When you hit a drum, it vibrates. Air around the drum vibrates too. When the air reaches your ears, you hear the sound.

There are loud sounds and soft sounds. The volume of a sound is how loud or soft a sound is. When you yell, you make a loud sound. When you whisper, you make a soft sound.

All sound has pitch. Pitch is how high or low a sound is. A drum is an instrument with a low pitch. A bell is an instrument with a high pitch.
