Key Vocabulary

  1. cycle

A cycle is a series of events being repeated many times.

  2. cloud

A cloud is many drops of water that are together in the sky.

  3. evaporate

Evaporate means to change from water to water vapor.

  4. condense

Condense means to change from water vapor to water drops.

  5. water vapor

Water vapor is the water that goes up into the air as a gas.

  6. drop

A drop is a small amount of water.

Visual Summary

  1. As the Sun warms water, some water turns into water vapor. Water vapor goes up into the air.

  2. As water vapor cools in the sky, it change into tiny water drops. The drops form clouds.

  3. When the water drops get bigger and bigger, they fall as rain or snow.

Exercise

Reading passage/section

Water moves from place to place. Water moves from the earth to the air and back again. This is called the water cycle.

The Sun makes water warm. Then the water evaporates, or changes into water vapor. We cannot see water vapor. Water vapor goes up into the air. Water vapor cools in the sky.

Then the water vapor condenses, or changes into tiny water drops. Many drops of water form clouds. Water drops in the clouds get bigger and bigger.

They then fall back to the earth as rain or snow. The rain or snow falls into rivers, lakes and oceans. And the water cycle continues.

Reading skill

Cause(reason) and Effect(change)

The Sun makes water warm. -> Water (evaporates).

Water vapor cools in the sky. -> The water vapor (condenses). Many drops of water form (clouds).

Water drops get bigger and bigger. -> They fall back to the earth as (rain) or (snow).

Comprehension

  1. The sun warms water, and next the water (evaporates).
  2. Rain or snow falls into (lakes and rivers).
  3. The water cycle is when water (moves from place to place).
  4. After water is warmed by the Sun, it can (become water vapor in lakes and oceans).
